Before joining The Carter Center, Alexander had a distinguished global development career, with more than two decades of experience in the government and nonprofit sectors.  
Maribel Königer

Head of Communications, ERSTE Foundation

Maribel Königer is Head of Communications of ERSTE Foundation in Vienna, Austria, since 2007. After studying art history and history at Ludwig-Maximilians Universität in her hometown Munich, Maribel worked as exhibition curator, art critic, writer and journalist. Based in Paris from 1992 to 1996, she followed the French cultural life for German speaking media (Süddeutsche Zeitung, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Focus, Vogue as well as many art magazines). In 1996, she changed sides and engaged in public relations. Maribel was Spokesperson of the world’s most important exhibition for contemporary art, documenta X (1997) in Kassel, Germany, and Head of Communications of the Culture and Events Programme, the Thematic Area and the Worldwide Projects of the world’s fair EXPO 2000 in Hanover, Germany. At ERSTE Foundation, she provides international visibility to projects of social innovation, democratic development und contemporary culture in Central, Eastern and South Eastern Europe. Since 2018, Maribel is also project manager of the journalism and media programmes of ERSTE Foundation. She is member of the European Association of Communication Directors (EACD), the International Association of Art Critics (AICA), the International Women's Fourm (IWF) and the steering group of the Communications Professionals in Philanthropy Network, a peer-exchange group of the European Foundation Centre (efc).
