The WWF New Deal for Nature and People is breathtaking and inspiring. I'm envisioning that we're approaching something akin to a "singularity" wherein our capabilities in social collatoration, AI, technology, and interconnectedness raise us up to a level where anything and everything is possible. Indeed, we're in a corner where everything MUST be possible, because eEVERYTHING must change. I"m excited because The Forum at least envisions collatoration among government, business, policy makers, and citizens. We need to envision a new world order, as it were, with new means of policymaking, government, doing business, and public input via smart social media and AI.
Currently we face three areas of focus: COVID-19, Black Lives Matter, and the Climate Crisis. These nexes are of critical importance but each must be solved by changing everything.
Above all, we need our social media experts and leaders to develop even better and smarter ways to foster coordination and collaboration among indiv iduals who care about the future, want change, and work for change via numerous change groups using social media and demonstrations. Writing in this forum is one way to exercise this, but the discussion in this forum needs to be integrated with similar discussions EVERYWHERE, such as on twitter, on parallel discussion platforms in hundreds of other social change organizations, etc.
Some changes/additions to the WWF New deal would for me include:
1) Justice including environmental justice, justice for species, justice for social groups including blacks, other "races," WOMEN, indivinous cultures many of which have been nearly obliterated already and are pretty much invisible, and the planet itself.
2) Critical issues that must be prioritized: COVID-19 and future pandemic resiliance, Climate Crisis, etc.
3) A new business model based on social good, not just GREED! At least in the U.S., business is "supposed" to maximize profits, whereas the original model was that corporations were GIVEN A LICENSE by governments and in turn had responsibility to provide PUBLIC BENEFIT. We need our CEO billionaires on board not just making profits and not just doing charity work, but also pitching in on the global leadership and policymaking level they are so excellent at.
Well, I could go on and on. I think the critical thing now is FINDING A WAY THAT EVERYONE CAN CONTRIBUTE AND PRVIDE INPUT IN A COORDINATED WAY. We need social media software to distill the essence of what's going on on twitter, etc. and also to drive discussion together instead of isolating and separating factions. In other words, I should be typing this into a COORDINATED forum space, not just one little fragmented part of the discussion hosted by one NGO. It should somehow impact Bill Gates and the political parties and all the social change groups and get to the thought leaders and so on. Obviously, my individual thoughts won't get there, but they should get aggregated and synthesized with millions of others to create a SHARED VISION. In other words, LARGE SCALE COLLATORATION which empowers the powerless individual to participate equally with the billionaire in the discussion, where there's no hub people, everyone's around the wheel. That's a job for the social media experts and - the rest of us too.
