About Christine O'Kelly

Dublin City University conceived and launched the Ten Principles of an Age-Friendly University in 2012 which has grown into a global network.  I am the Coordinator of the Age-Friendly University Global Network and under my leadership, the network has grown in strength and number and currently welcomes 84 members from across the globe.

I am also responsible for the Age-Friendly Programme in DCU where I lead the ongoing development of a creative, meaningful, and innovative community of practice.

I have an extensive background in working with a range of agencies and networks engaged in enhancing the well-being of older adults. I previously led  Ireland’s Older Women’s Network, a global network with a focus on gender and ageing.  I worked closely with Ireland’s National Positive Ageing Stakeholder Group and Age-Friendly Ireland. I represent DCU on the EU Covenant on Demographic Change in Europe and the International Federation on Ageing. I am a passionate advocate for older people promoting age inclusivity, challenging ageism and changing the narrative on ageing.

I was educated at the National College of Ireland, Trinity College and DCU and am currently undertaking a Doctorate in Education with a focus on Leadership.
