Young people often report difficulties in navigating the school-to-work transition. This challenge has become even more significant as the initiatives which traditionally helped smooth this transition, such as work-based learning programmes and apprenticeship opportunities, have been hard hit by the COVID-19 pandemic. Meanwhile, the world of work itself is rapidly changing. Accelerating digitalisation, the green transition and population aging are all profoundly impacting the skills required to perform in the workplace, if not the very meaning of a successful professional career.

This OECD Forum Virtual Event will focus on what can be done to help young people find professional opportunities, harness their skills and experience in a way that employers will value, and better understand workplace expectations. The results of a six-country survey led by Qualtrics to understand the challenges that young people are facing amidst the numerous transformations in the world of work will pave the way to a panel discussion, while Andreas Schleicher, OECD Director for Education and Skills, will present the OECD’s latest insights.
