Connected and autonomous vehicles, however, come with the cost of a new set of cybersecurity threats. A successful attack might lead to high recall costs, loss of property or even jeopardise human safety. It is therefore paramount to ensure their protection against these threats.
The nIoVe project, co-founded by the European Union, brings together European excellence to build an innovative cybersecurity of CAVs and IoV ecosystem solution to support the automotive industry, manufacturers, transport providers and smart city administrators covering the end users and the needs of the market. The mission of nIoVe is not only to detect attacks in real-time but also prevent them. In addition, using state-of-the-art technology all the interested parties, along with the response and recovery teams, will be able to share the available information and co-ordinate their actions. This will ensure the optimal response on any occasion.
The nIoVe solution will be demonstrated and validated in three different pilots across Europe. Selected scenarios will be executed in each pilot.
Real Smart City Environment
In the Real Smart City Environment Pilot, hosted in Geneva, hardware components have been deployed in the vehicle and the infrastructure. Partners will be testing their tools in this pilot, ensuring that all the available information can be utilised by the developed components of the nIoVe framework. In addition, all attack scenarios have been evaluated and prioritised while ensuring that normal operations are not compromised.
nIoVe in the Real-World pilot
The second pilot of the project is the simulated environment, developed by the partners, and able to replicate scenarios in a realistic way. This pilot provides the flexibility needed to implement and test a variety of scenarios, while at the same time constitutes an ideal training platform for cybersecurity experts.

In this pilot, the deployment and tests of nIoVe framework are implemented in real-world environments, set up specifically for the nIoVe solution.

nIoVe works towards a more robust, resilient and effective cybersecurity solution that can be effortlessly tailored to each organisation that wishes to adopt it.
The core elements of the project include Machine Learning Threat Intelligence, Trust Management and Identification Platform, a Multi-layered Response Toolkit, a Recovery Toolkit and Threat Intelligence Repository and Services.
nIoVe’s technical Core Elements
The consortium consists of 12 highly experienced and committed partners from industry, academia and various research organisations, as well as a transport organisation, and is distributed across six European countries (Greece, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Sweden, Spain) and Israel.
